We couldn't have asked for a more beautiful day. Especially in November. The sun was shining so brightly and warmly that even a little breeze blowing through was welcome. Light jackets and sweaters were carried along in vain, we wouldn't be needing them this time.
This weekend, our little home school group got together for it's annual Fall Scavenger Hunt. Shortly after we arrived, the children lined up from oldest to youngest and were each assigned a number. Odds on one team and evens on the other.
All of my children ended up on the same team! There were a couple other kids too. This was a great opportunity for them to get more practice in working together as a team. Something I have been coaching them on at home.
Actually, when we arrived at our friend's subdivision, we were having some issues in our van. I had to pull into the clubhouse parking lot and have a very serious talk with my kids about honoring God with our words and doing unto others what we wish they would do unto us. We were all feeling pretty agitated, and it was precious to just stop and recognize that "God is willing to forgive us right now as we admit our wrongs to him. We can stop sinning against him with these attitudes and we can begin to do what is right." I prayed hard with them. I prayed that they would show love to each other and to their friends. I also found myself wondering why I didn't take the time to pray before there was a problem. I think that would have been a good thing, don't you?

Now that's a big leaf!
We walked along the trail. The gentle glow of warm sunlight streaming through the colorful leaves was awe-inspiring. I couldn't get enough. It was a quiet place, except for the sounds of happy children and the rushing water of the river alongside our trail. I struggled to keep up with the group as they walked at a quickened pace or even sometimes ran ahead to keep up with the others. I walked, sometimes waddled along with my full pregnant tummy, just taking it all in. I snapped picture after picture and enjoyed every blissful moment.
Items on the list were found and placed in little baggies. Something smooth, something rough, something old, something beautiful...
How's this for beautiful?
We had a such a lovely time. After we had found all of the items on our lists, and walked enough to give this pregnant lady a workout, we met back at our friend's house for hot cocoa (or apple cider) and cookies and popcorn. It wasn't long before we had to make the trip back home. It was dinner time and Amera and Manny would be waiting for me to come and bake some frozen pizza. Since it was after 6pm when we got home, I was all too glad for the convenience of that.
Fall is slipping by so quickly...enjoy it while you can friends.
