Gray skies and french fries

Monday morning was my weekly scheduled appointment for a pregnancy check up.  As I got ready to go,  the thought occurred to me that it would be neat to take Clara along.  It's funny, so rarely do my kids go to the doctor's office with me anymore, that I was actually delighting in this experience.  Some of you younger moms might think that sounds a bit strange, but this is the stage I am in.  You'll be there someday. : )

I made a fun little trip out of it.  I briefed her on all the things they would do there, so her mind would be prepared.  I delighted in having my little sweetie with me and once again noticed how much small children can be a blessing to those around them.  The lady sitting next to Clara was carrying on the sweetest conversation with her.  She was amazed that Clara has so many siblings.  "You must have a busy house!" she exclaimed.  You should have seen the little smile on Clara's face.  This house is all she knows...and aren't all houses busy in one way or another? : )

She was thrilled when I cheerfully told her that after my appointment we would have lunch at Chick-fil-A.  "Mommy, I love that place!"  We shared a 12 piece nugget meal.  That worked out perfectly.  And of course she enjoyed climbing around in the play area afterwards.

I enjoy taking one or two of my children out with me once in a while.  Sometimes it's just an errand I have to run, but we can squeeze in a milkshake or something and make a little "date" of it.

I remember the days of my husband being a full-time employee and full-time student at the same time.  I took my kids with me everywhere.  Even to all my appointments during pregnancy.  It was tough at times, but we settled into a way of doing things and did what we had to do to make it work.

I'm really enjoying this stage of life.  From teenager to toddler (and soon to be newborn baby), I love all of the ways that each of them contribute to making our family life special.
