The tent and sleeping bags were pulled down from the attic. A little boy's backpack was packed with the essentials. Snacks, toothbrushes, spare socks...and a few birthday gifts to enhance the camping experience. Just before he left for his camping trip with dad, this six year old birthday boy was happy to find a cool flashlight and binoculars in the front pouch. Then it was time for me to drive the guys to the campsite for an overnight "Men & boys" camp out.
As soon as we arrived on site, father and son got straight to work preparing the spot where they would pitch their tent. Javi was eager to help and followed dad's instructions, raking the leaves and removing potentially pesky acorns. It was somewhere around 4:30pm at this point and the sun was beginning to set. The golden glow of sunlight falling on the leaves made for a perfect opportunity to snap some pictures before I left the campsite.

The guys had their fun, and so did we! We packed up our pillows, blankets and contributing elements to the fantastic taco supreme we would later enjoy at our special "camp-in" adventure. We headed on over to a dear friend's house for plenty of food, fun and fellowship.
I am very fond of avocados, so you can imagine how delighted I was to get a live-action tutorial on how to make guacamole. It was delicious! Even Amera, who doesn't care much for avocados or guacamole thought it was quite good. Hmmm...maybe it was that addition of Greek yogurt that did the trick?
After cleaning up from our delicious dinner and chatting in the kitchen for a while, we spent a little time trying out a barrette craft. But in the end, found that not all of us were able to complete what we started. Maybe it was how late it was getting, or perhaps it was due to little ones who refused to admit how tired they really were (but we mommies knew the truth!). Little Manny had not even taken a nap that day, not that we didn't make the attempt, he simply would not fall asleep. Maybe even he was too excited about the fun evening we had planned?
Brienne ended up with a cute little barrette, with the help of our wonderful hostess.
After the kids were settled down for the evening (most of them ; ) ), we sat down in a cozy living room to have some thoughtful conversation. We enjoyed ourselves, some did a little crochet...I never did pull mine out. But the later it got, the more we thought of the following morning when being able to function and take care of small children would be very necessary!
Amera took the couch and I slept snugly in a sweet little girl's twin sized bed. It's kind of funny now, but poor Manny fell out of his little bed a few times throughout the night. He ended up snuggling up next to Clara in her twin bed. Thankfully, everyone seemed to sleep soundly after that.
a lovely Saturday morning...
Homemade waffles from scratch! Does it get any better than that?! They were superb with a little butter spread on top and syrup filling every nook and cranny. Definitely a step up (or a few) from "Eggo." There's no turning back now. A waffle iron may be in my near future. As well as this amazing recipe. :) YUM!

After coming home and putting all of our "camping" supplies away, Joelle got straight to baking "pupcakes" for Javi's birthday. She found this recipe in one of her books and couldn't wait to try it. Brienne was happy to assist her in the kitchen. :)
Happy Birthday Javi!
Loved your post! I had so much fun with all of you. I think we are going to have to start a tradition.
